Onpage SEO Tips

Onpage SEO

All about onpage SEO

Now, I know this is a site about making money online, and it’s not meant to be too technical in nature, but it is important to get a few things right when you write blog posts or make web pages.

One of those things you must get absolutely 100% correct is your onpage SEO.

Now, what is “onpage SEO” and how do you achieve this 100% correctness?

What is onpage SEO?

Onpage SEO is getting your keywords right on your own webpages and posts. It’s your way of telling Google and the other Search Engines “Hey, this is what my page is about.”

In short, it’s giving Google explicit instructions on what your webpage is saying and it’s giving Google clues as to how to index your page.

How do I do onpage SEO?

Here are a few tips that you must follow to give your webpages and posts the best chance at getting indexed and ranked for your chosen keywords rather than allowing the Search Engines to try and figure it all out for you (trust me, they get it wrong all the time).

  • The URL to the page must have your keyword phrase (KWP) in it.
  • The title of your post must have your KWP in it.
  • Your KWP must be in the first sentence of your post or page.
  • Your KWP must be in the last sentence of your post or page.
  • Make sure your KWP is in your categories and tags.
  • Use an image and title it, name it, and alt tag it with your KWP.
  • Make sure that your KWP is in your meta description.
  • Use bolding, italics, color, and other signals to alert the search engines to what your page is about (it’s about onpage SEO, of course!). By the way, do not use underlines–they look like hyperlinks to click on.
  • Use Headings (H1, H2, H3, etc.) and put your KWP in them.
  • Link to one of your other pages from within your post or page and use your KWP as anchor text. For example, Onpage SEO.
  • Link out to a trusted website (like wikipedia.org — Onpage SEO — for example).
  • In both of the above bullets, make sure that the title of your anchor text link contains your KWP. In HTML, your anchor text for the wikipedia link would look like this:<a href=”http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Search_engine_optimization” title=”Onpage SEO” target=”_blank”>Onpage SEO</a>
  • Use your KWP 2 to 4 percent within the page or post. If your page has 500 words, make sure your KWP is used 10 to 20 times.
  • Don’t forget to link out to authority sites and get the buzz going by sharing your posts and pages on social media sites!

Of course, these are guidelines. But they’ve been tested over time by the best SEO experts in the business, so you can rest assured knowing that if you employ these Onpage SEO methods, you will get maximum benefits for your efforts!

Bill, this is really useful. I was kind of dreading the day when I would have to go through loads of SEO material in order to just break it down into the few points you’ve given us there. You just saved me a load of time.

Thanks. I shall try to follow this code. I must admit that I have wandered from the SEO path lately. Time to get back on the rails.

    Cheers, mate.

Thanks, Andy. There is a plugin that does all this and more–it’s called SEOPressor, but I like to do it myself. It’s a habit now, after having done it for so long.
