Online Product Creation…Not as Easy as It Sounds or Is it?

I observe individuals all the time in forums, in blog comments or even in webinars making statements that they’ve never made a dime online.  To this day that just boggles my mind.

Not that there isn’t a reason for this, because I believe there’s probably a myriad of reasons why this is the case.

But do you really want to know the main reason why people don’t make money online?

They simply have nothing to sell. No product. No service. They have really nothing going on in their so-called online business. They call themselves online marketers but they are marketing nothing.

Kinda makes you wonder doesn’t it? Now trust me, I’m talking to myself too. I have so many products on the back burner, it’s embarrassing. So if you relate, I feel your pain. I really do.

But humor me for a moment and just take any business in any other industry…

If you’re starting a restaurant business, what do you do? You sell food.

If you’re starting a business in the golf industry, what do you do?  You’re either going to sell golf balls of golf clubs or you provide a service helping people to learn how to play golf or improve their golf game!

If your plan is to get into the dating industry, what do you do? You create and sell a service that will bring one person together with another of like interests.

So from these examples if you are getting into the Internet marketing industry what do you do? You can only draw one conclusion right?

You create a product or service and you sell it. Period.

Now can the balance of your online success and failure come down to simply this? I’m sure of it. There is absolutely no way that you are running an online business if you have nothing to sell.

Just last week, I was on a webinar and this exact question was posed to Mike Cowles…“How do You Create a Product?”

And it’s not like I haven’t heard this in the past. I’m just surprised that I’m still hearing it today as if there is absolutely no clue on how to do this simple task.

Creating a product online should be just like any other product created for businesses you see off-line. There’s really not a big difference between the two.

It’s not like the Internet Marketing industry is some novel concept. It’s not. But a lot of people like to treat it as if it is and that’s where the trouble arises.

Making things harder than they have to be.

So let’s simplify shall we?

Now I’ve gone through the types of products you can sell online already; for this goal, let’s do it one more time.

Products you can sell:

  • Ebook/Short Report
  • Audio Training/Interview Product
  • Video Training Product
  • Live Stream Access Training
  • Physical Product

Services you can sell:

  • Membership Site
  • Coaching
  • Article/Ghost Writing
  • Web Design
  • Virtual Assistant

Now this is just to name a few but it doesn’t get much easier to see what types of products you can make. There’s only so many options. So just pick one and go for it!

Now I realize that it’s not as easy as it sounds, but it should be. So where is the disconnect? Why don’t you have products and services for sale if you really want to make money online?

Are you worried that you don’t have a great idea?

Do you believe that your product is not unique enough to gain interest?

Is time to create a product a factor in this at all?

Perhaps you don’t have a product idea at all and that’s what’s blocking you?

Now this time I’m not going to answer these questions. Let me know what is holding you back so we can get past this hurdle together. Because I strongly believe this is one of the biggest factors for people failing online.

There are a couple more but we’ll get to them in time…But what say you now? Let me hear what you have to say cuz maybe I’m way off base. I don’t know, but send me your comments below and let’s chat this up. Cool?

I’ll touch base with you soon…

Stayed tuned: “Weekend Product Builder” is being created this weekend that will show you how to create a hot selling product in 3 days flat!

  1. Hi Guys, really great question.
I guess when we start this must be one of the first questions that we ask. But what do I sell? In between all the other stuff we’re climbing through like website building, lists(what are they for?, zillllllions of information stuff, just stuff everywhere, dragging you one way then the next….
Then we end up with a great idea but absolutely no market and no clue what to sell and how and why. All this time the will to continue is slowly ebbing away and it becomes easier to just carry on with the day job. This is why so many quit…it’s because they have no coach/tutor/person/program that they TRUST to take them by the hand and lead them forward, step by step through the understanding of the PROCESS of how to make money online. It’s the process that’s usually very poorly explained. People say: “just do this and just do that…” You see that on the WF all the time. Very few explain the process of actually putting it all together so the poor confused novice is left swirling like a whirling Dervish in a hurricane…
OK so now we have two things: 1) I now have a product…a step by step guide to building a web site with WP
and B) You get your comment on here that you didn’t get last week…

Keep on with the great stuff, chaps!
    And thanks.

  2. You hit the nail on the head, Andy! As online marketers, we often forget that second term on only concentrate on the first! We’re online all the time, constantly challenged to LOSE our focus. Everybody wants to SELL TO US and we want to buy from them.

It’s TIME, people, to put down your credit card and SELL SOMETHING to others rather than buying from others all the time.

This business is pretty easy. We’ll be putting some coaching together to help you all focus and learn what you need to do to be successful in this business.

What’s hard about what we do is the constant distractions — SOS — Shiny Object Syndrome (there’s a new post!).

  3. That would be perfect…SELLING to others. Selling something really useful.

After 4 years of faffing about, I have now been taught to ignore the SOS and develop a laser guided focus toward a decent product and a decent website. I am very excited and eager to learn as much as possible. So bring it on, Bill!

I look forward to your posts. Thank you.
